Dear Myanmar friends of Italy, dear Italians living in Myanmar,

I wish to convey you my welcome on the website of the Italian Embassy in Yangon.

Despite the difficult current circumstances, the Embassy of Italy intends to continue to act as a bridge between the people of Myanmar and Italy and to support relations between the two civil societies. We also wish to be a point of reference for the Italians living and working in Myanmar, often in difficult conditions.

I am at your disposal to work together in order to reach the aforementioned objectives and I am aware of how important it is for the international community to continue to show solidarity to the people of Myanmar and to support a process leading to the restoration of democracy and peace.

The relation between Italy and Myanmar dates back centuries. In recent years, Italy has enthusiastically encouraged the democratic reform process, expecting to be able to work hand in hand with Myanmar and its leaders to consolidate an increasingly democratic Country, prosperous and open to the world.

But Myanmar has experienced many ups and downs throughout its history, as the events that have occurred since 1st February 2021, which the international community strongly condemns, have proven once again.

Italy and the Italian people have accompanied, and will continue to accompany, the path of the Myanmar people towards democracy, pluralism and development with great participation and with sentiments of fraternal friendship and solidarity. Despite the many difficulties, I am starting my new professional mandate in this Country in this spirit, and I am convinced of the importance to continue to make the presence of Italy in Myanmar felt and tangible in this critical juncture.
