ITALY HOPES FOR FREE AND DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS IN MYANMAR

YANGON, October 8, 2015 – Today the Italian Ambassador to Myanmar, Pier Giorgio Aliberti, had a meeting in Nay Pyi Taw with the President of the Electoral Commission (UEC) U Tin Aye. During the meeting, Ambassador Aliberti expressed the hope that elections on November 8^th will be free, fair, transparent and inclusive. Recalling the importance of an orderly and clear management of the most delicate aspects of the preparatory phase, among which advance voting and the revision of voters’ lists, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the openness showed by the UEC and the government to the international and national observers that have already started their monitoring activities.
