According to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations dated April 18, 1961 the functions of the Embassy of Italy in Yangon are, among others:
- To represent Italy in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar;
- To protect the interests of Italy and its nationals in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, within the limits allowed by international law;
- To ascertain by all lawful means conditions and developments in Myanmar, and reporting thereon to the Government of Italy;
- To promote friendly relations between Italy and the people of Myanmar, and developing their economic, cultural and scientific relations.
Through its Consular section, the Embassy of Italy in Yangon offers a series of services to Italian and non-Italian citizens living within its jurisdiction
The Embassy coordinates the activity of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, whose projects are mainly focused on rural development, sustainable tourism, SMEs support, conservation and valorization of cultural heritage.
