ITALY SUPPORTS THE REFORM PROCESS AND HOPES FOR FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS IN MYANMAR.

The Italian Ambassador to Myanmar Pier Giorgio Aliberti met with the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Thein Sein in Nay Pyi Taw to present his credential letters. During the meeting with the President, Ambassador Aliberti expressed the hope that the elections on November 8 will be transparent, inclusive and democratic and that the national reconciliation process could soon reach a positive outcome. They both acknowledged the excellent status of the bilateral relations and the Italian Ambassador confirmed his Government’s support to the ongoing reform process in Myanmar which, as he hopes, will have to be continued by the next Government. Ambassador Aliberti pointed out the positive evolution, especially in the last four years, of the relations between Italy and Myanmar and he remarked the request of support to the Italian candidature for the 2017-2018 non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
