ITALY-MYANMAR. MISSION OF AMBASSADOR PIER GIORGIO ALIBERTI TO KAYIN AND MON STATES

Yangon, March 24th 2017 – “Kayin and Mon States have an interesting potential for Italian companies, notably in the sectors of infrastructure and energy”, said the Ambassador of Italy Pier Giorgio Aliberti at the end of his mission to Hpa-An and Mawlamyine. The visit gave the Ambassador the opportunity to meet the Chief Minister of Kayin State, Daw Nan Khin Htwe Myint, the Chief Minister of Mon State, Dr. Aye Zan, representatives of the Karen Democratic Party and the New Mon State Party, delegates of the Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committees dealing with the peace process, Bishop of Hpa-An Justin Saw and Bishop of Mawlamyine Raymond Saw Po Ray. During the discussions, Ambassador Aliberti highlighted the strong commitment of the Italian Government towards democratic transition and the ongoing peace process in Myanmar, recalling the several projects carried out by Italy and exploring new possible ways of further cooperation.
