1. What is it?

The Codice Fiscale (Tax Code, Fiscal Code, or Tax identification number) is the alphanumeric code issued by the Italian Revenue Agency to identify Italian or foreign citizens in their interactions with Italian public administrations, private individuals and entities. The Codice Fiscale is created on the basis of personal data.

2. What it is used for?

Any administrative procedure (payment of taxes, duties, fees, etc.) or contractual activity (acceptance of inheritances, contracts with public or private entities, requests for fundings, sponsorships, leases or loans of real estate, etc.) requires the Codice Fiscale of the person performing such procedure or activity.

3. How do I get it?

Italian citizens residing abroad may request the Codice Fiscale through the Embassy. It is also possible to request it directly at the offices of the Italian Revenue Agency located on the Italian territory.

Italian citizens living abroad registered in AIRE

Italian citizens of age enrolled in AIRE can request the Codice Fiscale, for themselves and their minor children, through the Fast It Portal. Through same portal it will be possible to download the Codice Fiscale confirmation certificate, once the processing of the request is completed.

How?

1. Log into the Fast It Portal;
2. Click on “Consular and AIRE Registry” and then on “Request Fiscal Code”;
3. Confirm and submit the request;
4. After the request has been processed by the Consulate, you will be able to autonomously download the Codice Fiscale confirmation certificate.

If you are unable to download the certificate:

1. Register on the Fast It Portal, or log in if you already have an active account;
2. Apply for the “Online Membership” by clicking on “Consular and AIRE Registry” and then on “View your personal file in the Consular Registry”;
3. You will receive the message of successful association in your inbox;
4. Log into the Portal again and download the certificate.

Citizens of age registered in AIRE who already have a Codice Fiscale can directly download the Codice Fiscale certificate through the Fast It Portal.

Those who also wish to receive the Codice Fiscale plastic card must submit to the Embassy the pertinent form together with a copy of an identity document.

In case of loss or destruction of the paper certificate or of the plastic card, a duplicate can be requested in the same way.
