Translation and legalization of documents

In order to have legal value in Italy, any document issued by foreign authorities must be legalized by Italian diplomatic-consular representations abroad. These documents must also be translated into Italian. The translations must bear the certification of conformity, which is issued by the Consular Office.

In order to be used in Italy, Myanmar documents formed in Myanmar must therefore be:

  1. translated into English by a local Notary Public (so-called “notary translation”);
  2. legalized at the competent MoFA Office;
  3. translated into Italian by a professional;
  4. legalized by this Embassy (so-called “double legalization” since Myanmar does not adhere to the Hague Convention on Apostilles).

To proceed with the legalization and translation of a document, the applicant must submit to the Consular Office:

  • the document (in original) to be legalized;
  • the notarial translation into English legalized by the MoFA;
  • the translation into Italian.

Once all the necessary documentation has been collected, a scanned copy should be sent to the email address consolare.yangon@esteri.it. The Consular Office will arrange an appointment to submit the originals.

The above-mentioned services are subject to the payment of consular fees (Table of consular fees).
